I am a polyglot and a lover of languages. My native language is English. I speak fluent French, Portuguese and Spanish. I am fairly proficient with Italian and can eek by in German and Mandarin Chinese.
On this blog, I share my experiences learning languages both on the web and off, as well as cool language-related things I come across on the web (most while researching resources for Free Language).
Currently, I am interested in starting studies in Arabic and Russian, as well as continuing to improve my Mandarin Chinese, German and Italian skills. I will blog about all of these languages here - and more.
My other hobbies and pursuits include music, sailing and kitesurfing. I live on a sailboat and am traveling the world with wind as my power.

What I recommend for beginning learners?
I get this question often, and I highly-recommend Babbel for those learning English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish or Swedish. It is one of the very best triple-faceted combinations of an online learning platform (a "web software"), an offline desktop application and an iPod Touch/iPhone/iPad app.
For other languages, please have a look at Free Language and click on the language you are interested in to see plenty of resources and recommendations, most free and some worth the investment.
